Issue Summary
The tabs (multi-layer windows) across WebCT application are not easily identifyable or navigatable. Screen reader users can not identify the tabs used in an web interface. For example, a screen reader user can not identify that the content manager or "Build/Teach/Student" are tabs in the portal page or in a course home page. the best way to make this accessible to everyone:
- Provide a heading (preferably) of level H2 with the text saying something like "Tab menu" followed by tab items.
- Associate the selected tab with a (one-pixcel) graphic with the alt tag set to "(selected)" which appears inline with the name of the selected tab. for example, it could appears like "Student view (selected), where (selected) is the alt value for the graphic.
- Make sure that the the selection indicator graphic is associated with the new tab when a new tab is selected. This will ensure that information about the selected tab is always conveyed to user also in an alternative way.
